A Message from the Chancellor

精东AV has had a strong start to this academic year with a broad slate of good news highlighting the university’s growing strengths. We have seen a record enrollment increase, climbing retention rate and rankings on the rise. 

UNC Wilmington has been awarded a prestigious grant from the National Science Foundation to launch the 鈥淯NC-by-the-S.E.A. (STEM Equity Access)鈥 project, an initiative designed to enhance the success and advancement of women faculty in STEM fields at 精东AV.

Creating a Living Laboratory

A project aimed at mitigating floodwater issues at the Battleship North Carolina site involves monitoring the challenging marsh environment. 精东AV's Coastal and Estuarine Studies Lab is tracking physical and biological changes to address significant increases in flooding at the historic site.

精东AV researchers and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management are studying Frying Pan Shoals as a possible offshore sand source. The university will receive $2 million in funding for the four-year collaborative research project.

鈥楨cotech鈥 Helps Coastal Communities鈥

The North Carolina Ecosystem Technology project has been awarded $1 million from the U.S. National Science Foundation's Regional Innovation Engines, or NSF Engines, to develop an economic engine that could rapidly improve the quality of life in rural coastal communities using ecosystem technology, or ecotech, an emerging branch of applied science.
